The chip butty

The chip butty was originally considered a working-class meal and was served in pubs. Usually a meal is served with a round of bread so diners can assemble their own chip butty with leftover chips.Another variation frequently seen in the North is the scollop butty, in which the chips are battered before frying. Although the modern concept of a sandwich using slices of bread (as found within the Western World) can arguably be traced to 18th century Europe, the use of some kind of bread or bread-like substance to wrap. The different terms originated from bakers, who labeled different bread rolls depending on how they made the dough and how they were cooked. Brown sauce is traditionally eaten with meals and dishes such as full breakfasts, bacon sandwiches or chips and baked beans.
